License Plate Recognition – For Car Park Entry

How it works

License Plate Recognition (LPR) uses cameras to automatically read your vehicle’s number plate when you enter and exit a car park. This removes the need for tickets, cards, or manual check-ins.

At a very limited number of car parks, you may be required to download the Secure Parking App to use LPR. This will be indicated on the information page re the car park on this website.

There are two ways LPR is used across our car parks:

1. Drive-up (Casual) Parking with LPR

At some car parks, LPR replaces traditional tickets or access cards.

How it works

Drive in - Cameras read your licence plate at the entry. No ticket is issued.

Park - Your stay is automatically tracked.

Pay for your parking - Depending on the car park, you can:

Pay at the exit gate - (tap card / digital wallet), or

Pay at a pay machine - before returning to your car.

Exit - The system recognises your plate and opens the gate once payment is completed.

2. Pre-Purchased Parking for a car park with LPR

At select car parks, LPR is used for pre-paid parking, removing the need for QR codes or PIN entry.

How it works

Pre-purchase your parking digitally - Enter your vehicle registration during account set up, or check your vehicle registration is up-to-date if you are already registered.

Drive in - The system automatically matches your licence plate to your purchase.

Park - No need to scan a QR code or enter a PIN.

Exit - The system recognises your vehicle and allows you to leave in line with your purchase conditions.

Things to know

Make sure your licence plate is entered correctly when purchasing in advance to avoid issues.

If your plate isn’t recognised, you can still enter or exit using onsite instructions (e.g. intercom or manual payment).

Payment options may vary by location (exit gate vs pay machine).

Do I still get a ticket?
        No, your licence plate acts as your ticket.

What if my licence plate isn’t recognised?
        Follow the instructions on the entry/exit machine or use the help button for assistance.

Can I use LPR if I’ve pre-paid?
        Yes, at participating sites, your purchase is linked to your licence plate automatically.
